Spring 2018 Update

May 5, 2018

It’s May – the skies are mainly blue, the sun is warm, and there are buds on the trees. Renewal!

LAM had a very successful Symposium in March. You will be able to read all about it in the Summer issue of Pathways.

The Rumor’s Comedy Club fundraiser for LAM is on May 17 at 7:45 (earlier for an opportunity to sit in the LAM section and have a bit to eat). May 10 is the deadline to get your tickets for this fun night out. Joe List is the comedian that evening. Check him out on You Tube – very funny. Tickets are $12, with 50% of the proceeds going to LAM, and can be purchased directly on the website. Click on the Rumor’s Fundraiser for more information or purchase tickets here. There will also be a 50/50 draw. Bring your friends for an evening of “laughter is the best medicine”. See you there!

In April LAM staffed an information table at the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba’s (MTAM) annual conference. There were several hundred massage therapists in attendance including some of our professional members. The Heather Whittaker Memorial Award recognized several lymphedema therapists for their outstanding commitment to continuing education and professional development including Wanda Guenther, Wendy Leroux, Edith Mulhall, and Breast Health Centre therapists Jen Dalke and Katherine Strychak. Wanda Guenther was also recognized for 25 years membership in MTAM. What a great representation from the lymphedema community!

On May 11 & 12 LAM will have an information table at the Wounds Canada Spring Conference. This conference will be attended by over 250 delegates. These events give exposure to our association while providing the people who stop by an opportunity to learn about lymphedema.

Our AGM will be held in the fall. This year there will be a call for nominations for Board Members. If you, or someone you know, would like to give of their time to promote education and awareness about lymphedema, please visit the Board section of the website for more information. Plans are underway for an event after the meeting.

Enjoy your spring,

LAM Board
